Intellectual property, before anything else
Replica and near-copy designs are widespread in this category. We check the item against known brands and designs, and we will not buy a counterfeit or a copy of a protected design — detention at your border is the expensive version of this conversation.

What the material actually is
"Leather" on a 1688 listing may mean genuine leather, split, bonded or PU. The same word covers a large price range. We ask for the specific material and check a sample rather than repeating the listing word.
Zips and hardware by name
The zip is the most common failure point and the easiest thing to substitute. If the specification is YKK, we get that confirmed in writing and verify it on the sampled units, because a generic zip looks identical until it is used.
Stress points and load
Strap anchors, handle attachments and the base are where a loaded bag tears. Inspection loads sampled bags rather than examining them empty on a table.
Lining, padding and laptop sleeves
Internal construction is where cost is quietly removed — thinner lining, less padding, a sleeve that does not fit the size claimed. We measure the sleeve against a real device.
Volume, not weight, sets the freight
Bags are bulky and light, so freight is charged on volumetric weight. Whether they ship compressed or shaped makes a large difference, and it is worth deciding deliberately.
